Do I hate Mario Kart Wii?

To be fair, I've only played through one single-player Grand Prix since I bought it, but it's such a frustrating experience. I race the best I can, I make it to first, and then it's just a never-ending barrage of blue shells, red shells, POW blocks, lightning bolts, etc. Why do they even bother to warn you when a blue shell is coming? If you could shake it off, like a homing missle in a Star Fox game, maybe I would understand, but instead it's just a way to inject some additional dread into your random catastrophe.

One of the big changes to the Wii edition of Mario Kart is you can have 12 players in a race now. This sucks, because the farther back someone is, the more likely they are to find a blue shell -- and if you don't know, the blue shell is a magical power-up that only attacks whoever is in first place -- so if you're a good driver, you'll probably get hit with several blue shells over the course of 3-lap race. What's more annoying is that the blue shell doesn't even help the player who gets it, because they're too far back anyway, so really it's just a way for the guy in 8th to give a middle finger to the guy in first. It's the most petulant of power-ups: If I can't win, you can't either.

Hey Dante, I agree with you 100%. The blue shells are just plain evil. I don't know, but Mario Kart Wii seems just like the other Kart games, especially the DS version. I got it, but after 1 day, I got bored of it. It is now sitting on my shelf collecting dust.
By the way, have you gotten GTA IV yet? I got washed up in the hype and got it the first day it came out. It is cool, but just like Mario Kart Wii, it seems just like the previous versions. First you have a cut scene, then the mission starts where you either have to drive somewhere and fetch something, or drive somewhere and kill someone. Wash, rinse, and repeat. Don't get me wrong, I think it is a cool game, but I wouldn't give it a 10 like most sites do. Maybe it's because I haven't explored the underbelly of the multiplayer aspect of the game. I did on the first day, but all I got were "wanna-be" gangsters throwing the "F" word all over the place - rabble that I try to avoid on Xbox Live.
Anyway, what's your opinion, since you and I are the only few who don't think Mario Kart is the best thing since sliced bread.

Yo Grouchy

I still plan on playing Mario Kart some more. Last night I unlocked two cups and got my first gold trophy, so I guess I'm getting better? I don't know. I want to at least unlock all the cups, and I want unlock a few of the cooler characters, so if my friends ever want to play multiplayer, we've got some good stuff to choose from.

Actually I bought GTA IV last night. I've played it almost three hours so far, and it certainly is a GTA game, but I do enjoy it. Maybe that's because the GTA series to date are some of my all-time faves, and Mario Kart has never held as high a place for me. I think the missions so far are very bland, but that's how it always goes. I anticipate the game getting crazier and more in-depth as it goes on. I mean, in San Andreas you went for chauffeuring gang-bangers to flying a jet pack.

I tried the multiplayer too but I don't think I'm a very good aim. If you want to play some time, send me a friend request. DanteBK.
